Bouncing Back to Balance: How to Maintain Healthy Habits in Overwhelming Seasons

There was a moment recently where I had to be honest with myself:
“Why does everything feel so hard right now?”

Not in a dramatic way. Not all at once. But in everyday moments when my routine felt off…when my to-do list kept growing…when I couldn’t quite catch up, no matter how hard I tried.
And what confused me the most was I’ve always been good at adapting.
When Adapting Doesn’t Feel Easy Anymore
I’m usually the person who can see when something needs to change, and I adjust. I pivot. I figure it out. I move forward. But this season? It feels different. Not because I don’t want change…but because the changes are happening so quickly, I barely have time to process them.
And it forced me to slow down and ask myself:
Why does this feel so different?
Is it fear? Overwhelm? Anxiety?
Am I out of rhythm… or just tired?
The Part of Motherhood No One Explains
People tell you that marriage and motherhood will change you, and they’re right.
You think differently. You move differently. You carry more.
But what people don’t always say is how constant the changes are. You finally figure something out…and then it changes. Sleep schedules shift. Appetites change. New routines begin like school. And just when you feel like you’ve found your groove…You’re starting over again.
When Balance Starts to Feel Like Chaos
There was a time when balance felt natural to me. Not perfect but steady. I had systems, structure, and flow. But lately, it feels like everything is a priority. The way I’ve always visualized balance is like a pie chart, different areas of life taking up different percentages depending on the season. Some seasons require more from home. Others require more from work or personal.
But this season? It feels like every slice is demanding 100%. And I found myself wondering is balance even realistic anymore? After talking with my husband, I had a realization…
Nothing is wrong with my life, I just stopped maintaining what was working.
That was hard to admit. Because it’s easier to think:
“I need a new system”
“I need to start over”
But the truth was, I didn’t need something new. I needed to return to what I already knew worked.
A Biblical Reminder: You Were Never Meant to Carry It All
This brought me to the story of Moses in Exodus 18. Moses was leading, managing, and solving problems all day, every day. He was trying to do everything for everyone. And his father-in-law told him
“What you are doing is not good… You will only wear yourselves out.” (Exodus 18:17-18)
Moses wasn’t failing. He was overwhelmed. And the solution? Delegation. Shared responsibility. Support. Not because he wasn’t capable, but because he wasn’t meant to do it alone.
The Truth About Habits and Balance
Here’s what I’m learning:
Healthy habits don’t sustain themselves. Just like any skill, if you stop practicing them…you lose your rhythm. At one point, I was:
Asking for help
Delegating responsibilities
Being intentional with my time
And somewhere along the way…I stopped. Not intentionally. Just gradually.
I’m starting to notice my patterns:
I take on too much because I can
I stop asking for help when life gets busy
I default back to doing everything myself
And that’s where the overwhelm begins.
Grace in the Process
Let’s be honest, this isn’t always easy. Balancing life, motherhood, responsibilities, and personal growth is a constant adjustment. But I’m learning to give myself grace. Because this isn’t about perfection. It’s about alignment.
A Practical Reset Plan
If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, here’s where to start:
Pause and acknowledge where you are (without judgment)
Identify what’s no longer working
Return to 1–2 habits that once grounded you
Ask for help, even if it feels uncomfortable
Give yourself permission to not do everything
Small resets create sustainable change.
Come Back to What Works
This week, I want to challenge you:
Don’t try to rebuild your entire life.
Instead…
Return to what once worked for you.
Revisit the habits.Reopen the systems.Recreate the rhythm.
And most importantly, stop carrying everything by yourself. Because balance isn’t about doing it all. It’s about doing what matters with intention.
Grace, Gains, Glow
Grace — for the seasons where things feel off
Gains — from returning to the habits that support you
Glow — that comes from living in alignment, not overwhelm
You’re not behind. You’re just in a season that requires readjustment. And you have everything you need to find your way back.

This resonates! I spent most of my thirties feeling like I was behind! Oh, to embrace the season, just as it is, and realize that he is in it - even when balance is so hard to find! Thank you for this!
